Tana Pistorius is a professor of intellectual property law at the University of South Africa. She is the Chairperson of the NIPMO Advisory Board and a member of the National Cybersecurity Advisory Council. She is the President of the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIP).
Tana is an attorney and a notary. In 2011-2012 she established the Directorate Innovation and Technology Transfer at Unisa. She has participated in various national and international research projects and is especially interested in intellectual property and e-commerce. She is an NRF rated researcher and a research fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law.
In 2011 she was appointed by the dti to the South African Review Commission on the Collection and Distribution of Royalties to IP Rights Owners. She is a senior adjudicator of the SAIIPL alternate dispute resolution panel for the .za domain-name system. She offers a course on IP Management for the WIPO Worldwide Academy.
